According to industry reviews, China's eldercare robotics market will exceed 10 billion yuan (about $1.47 billion) in 2026, with the sector shifting from technical validation to mass commercial adoption. The demographic pressure here is concrete: China is aging rapidly, and the number of working-age people willing to work in elder care is growing far more slowly than demand for such services.

Affordable devices for a mass market

Kenqing Technology has launched an exoskeleton specifically designed for elderly users: it weighs 2.4 kg and sells on Taobao for 17,000 yuan (about $2,334) — a price accessible not just to institutions but to individual families. Another notable model is the "Youlong" bilateral hip-assist exoskeleton from Changsha Eulon Robot, which has drawn attention for a design that adapts to different body types and secures comfortably with straps.

From a single device to a whole facility

A separate milestone: the opening in Beijing of a facility its creators call the world's first smart eldercare center built entirely around robotics and AI devices. This isn't an experimental lab but an operating facility combining "silver economy" services with real practical application of cutting-edge technology in daily care.

Why exoskeletons, not humanoids

Unlike humanoid robots, which replace a human in a task entirely, an eldercare exoskeleton works on a different principle — it amplifies a person's own, even weakened, abilities: helping maintain balance, compensating for hip-muscle weakness, reducing fall risk. For an elderly person's family, that's a fundamentally different value proposition than a caregiver robot — not a replacement for independence, but an extension of it by years. That's precisely why, despite all the hype around humanoids, self-operated wearable devices are gaining commercial traction faster — their trust threshold and price of entry are notably lower.
